Climb a Tree and Holler

"If he who has a thing to sell goes and whispers in a well,
He won't be so apt to make the dollars,
as he who climbs a tree and hollers!"
~ Anonymous ~

Today we are tooting our horns. Yep, we're going to climb right up the tallest tree we can find (this blog) and holler! Brag on yourself! What makes you proud? What are you good at? What do you like about yourself?

When we did this back on October 7, in a post called "Time to Toot Your Horn," it was a big hit. Some were slow to get warmed up, but once things got rolling, people were tooting uncontrollably. =o) Last time we tooted about our CrossFit accomplishments. Today, toot about anything you want. Share at least five things, but the best tooters will have many more. And remember, no discounting or apologizing!

It's been an interesting week in my world with several great conversations about priorities and what is really important in life. This exercise will help my processing. Thanks for the opportunity Pat C!

I love that I have taken my talents and found a job where I can use them to take care of sick kids but also to work on research so that the next generation has better health care. I love that I have the ability to teach- medical students, my high school aged softball team, the kids at church. I love that I have the heart that wants to help my fellow man both here and in Honduras. I love my sometimes uncontrolable red curls. I love that I can laugh at my lack of pop-culture knowledge. I love that most of the time I wear a smile. I love that I have persevered through some difficult times and come out a stronger woman on the inside and I love that I have committed to crossfit and become a stronger person on the inside and outside.

Meeks, good to see you back on the blog. I've been missing you. I love your list, and I love all those things about you too!

Here are some things I like about me:

1. my analytical brain.
2. my willingess and desire to keep reinventing myself and trying new things.
3. my writing, this blog, and the encouragement it brings to others.
4. my ability to connect with other people.
5. my good health and the fact that I'm now taking zero medication. When I first started crossfit, I was taking Lipitor and some other meds for chronic issues. I'm now drug-free!

Toot, toot.

I love all that about you Shannon.

As for me all I can think about is the fact that I have not lost my mind lately ( or maybe I have) it seems like everyone is trying to drive Eric and I crazy lately
( amily, coworkers, you name it) Yet we have stayed true to ourselves and have managed to be happy and not argue at all. Which is another thing I want to toot about I grew up in a family that argued and fought A LOT, well lots of times you see woman relive patterns that they grew up with and choose men that are abusive and angry. Well Eric is NOTHING like that I can not even count on one hand the amount of arguments that we have got in the past six and half years. I have to admit I did not always date men like this and in fact the memories of prior boyfriends are often of us fighting. But I took a break from dating after that, took care of myself, and made a vision of what I wanted out of life and who I wanted to share my life with. Well that vision came true and I feel extremely lucky and proud of myself for that.

good morning Pat, all your qualities are wonderful, I absolutely love that you are off any meds, that is awesome!

Rachel, thanks for sharing your list. Breaking family scripts is hard...you should be really proud of yourself for the life you have created.

Another thing I like about me is that I becoming less of a perfectionist...Example: I allowed myself to end a sentence in a preposition for the sake of today's post. ("What are you good at?") =o)

Meeks, Rae, Pat -- great toots. Rae, I love that you are breaking the cycle. That's damn hard to do.

Here are some things that I'm proud of:

I'm good at saving money and not living above my means.

Despite the death of my parents, my daughter and my marriage I still look at life as an icecream sundae.

I'm smart.

I got into every law school I applied to including the #1 school in the country.

I'm making progress on becoming a better me. I'm becoming more compassionate and feeling as I experience more and more. I'm getting better at eating an elephant one bite at a time instead of either trying to shove the whole thing in my mouth, or giving up because the task is too daunting.

I love my kids. Really, really love them.

Now, soapbox: Perfection is in the imperfect. The best writers are those who know how to break the rules artfully. Besides, some of the writing rules we learned as kids are just flat wrong. For example, you can and should start sentences with because, but, and. Pat you are a fabulous writer.
Off soapbox.

What am I thinking!? I'm very proud that I'm still in the burpee challenge. I'm almost at a point where I can say burpees USED TO BE my most hated exercise!

Sorry I am so late today. Everybodys toots are GREAT!

Here is my list:

I love my crazy sometimes uncontrollable laugh. I get to the point where I make no sound and when i finally do it is a loud squeak.

I love my squeaky hiccups that others find funny.

I love that I can make people laugh.

I am strong.

I am smart and learn quickly.

I love that I love to cook and feed people.

I love to help people.

I too love my crazy curls.

And...I too react well in Emergency situations.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Melissa, that's a good list. And the main thing I noticed is how much easier tooting was for you this time than the first time we did it. You've really grown. Congratulations. You sound good. I'm glad.

I did not get an opportunity to "holler" yesterday because I was busy "climbing" so I am going to give this a shot this morning. Although I am not supposed to identify shortcomings here, I must say that I feel humbled by the strong and accomplished group of people here! Kudos to all of you! Wonderful reading the things you see about yourselves! Now here goes my abbreviated list:

1. I like that I enjoy people. There is always room for one more as I can never have enough friends.

2. I love that I am able to enjoy a diverse group of friends all over the world.

3. I am thrilled with the success that I have achieved in my career and that I had the courage to make a job change when I became burned out on what I was doing.

4. I am glad that I am able to help people achieve their goals in my current job.

5. I like that I have been able to add a bit of muscle over the last few years and am no longer that awkward kid I used to be!

I am sure there is more, but I am still on my first cup of coffee! I like that I love coffee. One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting in the lap of my Grandmother while she enjoyed her morning coffee, and I start each morning that way, too! I hope we can all enjoy a cup together soon!
