Happy Valentines Day

Remember when we were kids and we exchanged valentines with our classmates? Do they still do that? I don't know, but it was fun. If life didn't move at break-neck speed now, I think we should re-institute that tradition today. Prepare corny valentines and hand them out all day long to friends and co-workers.

So here's my corny valentine for all of you. I hope it brings back some fond memories of childhood when Valentines Day was just about friendship and enjoying the day.

Happy Valentines Day.

Good morning.

Pat, you're trying to make me and thousands of other parents feel bad. For the last week we've been complaining non-stop about the school valentine thing. Many of my friends are on a FaceBook anti-elementary valentine mission. :)

But, I thank you for your valentine. And, I'm glad it brings back fond memories for you.

Actually, I thought this was just another new attempt at commercialization on steroids because I don't recall ever doing the mass exchange of valentines as a kid.

People laugh at me because I still have a box with all those Valentines that were given to me as a child! It is fun every few years to look at them! It brings back lots of great memories! I think I have turned into a sentimental old man! :-)

I bet one of those Valentines in that box might be from you, PatC. I shall have to look the next time I drag it out for viewing.

Happy Friday to all, and may you have a great Valentine's Day!

Sorry, Sheryl. I had no idea I was raising such a politically charged issue. I just think of it as a simple, sweet activity from my childhood. My mom would buy me a box of valentines for probably a $1, and then I would choose a valentine for each classmate and address it....yeah, I can see how that's an activity that needs to be stopped! =o) I think you parents need to look elsewhere...exchanging valentines is just the straw that is breaking your backs. Take that for what it's worth from a single, childless woman. ;-)

One last thing...you can google "vintage valentines" and click on images and scroll thru the tons of old valentines...these are apparently very collectible...so there are other boomers just like me with fond memories of valentines day. They must be the ones pushing it in schools today.

I loved exchanging valentines. We had to do them for the whole class, so no one was every left out. Actually, my first boyfriend asked me to "go with him" in the 4th grade on a valentine...we lasted the weekend then he dumped me because his sister thought my sister was a nerd.

One of the assistants that sits outside my office gave me a valentine. It's for a free Krisy Kream donut...nice gesture.

Happy Valentines Day all!
