The Precious Present

Happy Birthday, Melissa!

Time isn't precious at all; it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time -- past and future -- the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.

Why is it the most precious thing? Firstly, because it is the only thing. It's all there is. The eternal present is the space within which your whole life unfolds, the one factor that remains consant. Life is now. There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there ever be. Secondly, the Now is the only point that can take you beyond the limited confines of the mind. It is your only point of access into the timeless and formless realm of Being.

Melissa, I hope you have a terrific day. 30 is a really special birthday, and the 30's are a great decade. Of course each decade just gets better as long as you are continuing to grow as we all are.

I remember how fun my 30th birthday was. I was working at a software company with my first significant management role. I had taken up running and was at a healthy weight. It was a good time in my life. When I got to work on my 30th b'day, some of the men who worked for me had taken a picture of my head and imposed it on the top of a lingerie model's body. They made color copies and put it in everyone's (except mine) inbox and in the men's bathroom. I was absolutely mortified and went balllistic. Here I was trying to be taken seriously, and thinking that I was, and everyone is having a good laugh at my expense. I wasn't able to join in with them...I took myself far too seriuosly. My sense-of-humor has grown considerably since that time, and I'm having a good laugh remembering it this morning.

So, here's to you having a great day, Melissa. And lots of good laughs!

Queen for a day. That's you, Melissa. Wear your tiara to the workout this evening.

I don't have a tiara. No biggie. No one here at work knows it's my birthday. A tiara would draw attention.

What a great picture... your hair & skin look ravishing Melissa!

Aaahh living in the Now -- my friend told me a good saying "we are always in the right place at the right time whether we want to be there or not."

Awe thanks Kath!! :o)

It's funny that this post is about "Living in the Now" when all I am doing today is trying to avoid the "NOW".

Happy Birthday, Melissa! I can think of no better day to attract attention to yourself than on your birthday! Wear your tiara proudly!

Since no one seems to want to admit that they own a tiara, I guess I will have to send mine up to Pat. She can pass it around to everyone on their birthday to assure they attract lots of attention!

Kath, I love the saying. I could use a reminder of that one from time to time! Thanks for sharing!

Pat, as always, your blog posting is terrific! I appreciate your taking the time to pass along the wisdom.
